The history of Novigrad

A story wrapped in walls

Novigrad was settled in ancient times, and it is mentioned in written documents as Neapolis as far back as the 7th century.

Novigrad enjoyed a renaissance between the 8th and 9th centuries as the seat of a Frankish prince and the starting point for feudalisation. Its favourable position and fertile interior brought conquest by the Lombards, Franks, Venetians, Habsburgs, and Italians. The story of the Novigrad's walls and towers began during Venetian rule in the 13th century. After their construction, the walls were renovated a number of times, and are perhaps the best witness to the town's identity and the many builders of its proud history.

Don't miss Rigo gallery, which was even visited by the famous Noam Chomsky, and make sure to see the Gallerion Austro-Hungarian Navy Museum to discover why it is rated so highly on TripAdvisor.

Boat trip to Venice

Rated 4.4 (Very good) by our guests

Other guests of Aminess Novigrad loved this experience

Everything was great, but the criticism goes to the young guide who waited until we arrived in Venice to inform us that, starting this year, guides can no longer lead large groups or any groups at all. Consequently, the portion of the tour meant for listening to the guide turned into a chase, with us running after him while he only explained things to those immediately around him, leaving others struggling to catch up and listen. I would especially like to commend the husband and wife team of guides there for their excellent work. Overall, the experience was worth the price.

Excellent trip! Our family enjoyed it! Whole schedule was on time, well planned and with most important thing to see in Venice during one day visit. The guides (Tanja, Sanja, Žiga and Ljudmila) very great, helpful and cheerful as was the crew on the ship! I would recommend it especially for families with “relatively” small children because Venice is a little bit chaotic to explore it on your own in a short period of time
